Andy del Rosal 4 months agoI’ve seen this restaurant for the last few months and after going to their website and seeing more details about the wood fired pizza oven I decided to give it a try. When I was in the restaurant I realized they have NY style pizza and wood fired. The closest comparison for the wood fired would be V Pizza. But there are some differences. V’s is Italian style, following the Neapolitan pizza style. Emangeo’s takes the brick oven style with the New Haven twist. The dough is different and this makes the difference with a traditional wood fired pizza like V’s. The New Haven style is crispier and holds its form very well vs a Neapolitan style. My daughter and I tried the aPizza (pronounced ‘abeets’) which is typical to New Haven. It was very good it is worth trying at least once. I was skeptical trying a tomato sauce only pizza but it was very good. We also had a wood fired cheese. Again a good pizza, crisp crust with a good balance of sauce and cheese. The brick fired pizzas are more American traditional vs Neapolitan Italian style (ie cheese vs Margarita as a basic comparison). I look forward to going back and trying a few more of the wood fired and also the NY style. We love the pizza from Tony D’s across the street which is a great NY style pizza. So it will be a good comparison.
J.P. Natkin a month agoAfter four years of searching, I have found my primary pizza purveyor in Jacksonville: Emangeo's! I grew up in Connecticut and was raised on Sally's, Modern, and Zuppardi's. And while I love Jacksonville, it has been difficult to find decent pizza. The owners of Emangeo's are from Connecticut and it shows. The pizza is delicious: superb and flavorful crust, a bright tomato forward sauce, and a good balance of cheese. The bottom of the crust shows the high heat of their oven, though not as crisp or charred as is typical in New Haven. The pizza was absolutely delicious, and the vibe was also wonderful. The owners take great pride in their food and were genuinely pleased to hear that I enjoyed it. And for those in the know, they sell the full line of Foxon Park sodas. A ten-out-of-ten!
Rick Jarvis 4 months agoCame for a taste of New Haven pizza Great under carriage and dough. We enjoyed it NY style was really good but not an 8. I would definitely stop in again.
Brian Kraut a month agoI am what some would call a pizza snob and I have been to some of the best places in Italy, NY, NJ, and many other places. I have also been to most of the highly reviewed pizza places in the Jacksonville area and I have to say that Emangeo's is right up there at the top of my favorite places. Their specialty is a New Haven style and I find it to be fantastic. For those unfamiliar with the style it is similar to a Naples style, but a little crispier and with a great brick oven char to the bottom that gives it a fantastic flavor. I am also a big fan of Naples style, but I prefer the additional crispiness. The dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings are all top notch. Individually they are all great, but together they make a really amazing pizza. The restaurant is done very nicely and the staff there were all great. I spoke to George, the owner, and could immediately tell that he has the same passion for pizza that I have and he works very hard at running a great restaurant and providing great food. I highly recommend giving them a try. You will not be disappointed!
