Alex 2 months agoIMHO the best pizza in Baltimore. It’s not hard to see why this place has stayed open nearly a century. They do a unique bar style that’s a cross between thin crust and thick Detroit pan style. Amazing sauce, sweet and bright and zesty. The both cheese was a perfect pizza, perfectly balanced and both crispy and good chew. The shrimp fra diavolo is my favorite pie from here technically. Although this visit I tried the stuffed pizza and that was amazing too. It’s like something I used to get at sbarro as a kid but done with real dough and great ingredients. When I bring out of towners the crab pizza, the shrimp fra diavolo, and the classic both cheeses are what I make them try.
Rachel Erotika 4 months agoTo celebrate National Pizza Day, I took my parents to check out Matthew’s Pizza in the Highlandtown area. Luckily, there was no waiting time and we got a table right away. We started with mozzarella sticks, French fries, and Bone-in Buffalo wings; the wings were the perfect crispy texture and the buffalo sauce was mild and tasty. We ordered the ‘Fiery Hawaiian’ and ‘The Great White Veggie’ pizzas; watch out for the jalapeño peppers, they’re spicy, but the pizza is so good! For a sweet finish, we had ‘cannoli’ and the star of the night, the ‘limoncello cake,’ which was very tasty, with great fluffy texture and the right amount of sweetness. They’re very popular for their crab pie. Service was attentive and outstanding overall; we enjoyed the nostalgic vibe and the quiet atmosphere.
Justin Sherlock 5 months agoI live nearby and somehow I haven’t heard of it! But let me clear, I will definitely be back. Amazing deep dish. I ordered the veggie option which I’d recommend, but something also tells me to stick with the classic 3-cheese pie next time. Service was fast and helpful. Around $20 for a solid meal and some leftovers.
Carrie Moore 7 months agoI don't post a review on a business often but when I do, it's because I was disappointed or extremely impressed. I've had pizza from many establishments, many times because of recommendations from others. Some were better than others but most were pretty much like all of the others. My husband being from Baltimore ( I'm from Pennsylvania) he has often talked about Mathews. I never gave it much thought because when I wanted a pie, I'd always go where I knew was good. During the most recent visit, I wanted something good, something authentic. My husband suggested Mathews. I looked them up and decided to give them a go based on the pictures. Upon entering the small but not cramped dining area, we were greeted immediately by the friendly staff and our orders were taken. We ordered the Caprese Toast which was amzing and then Greektown Pizza, both of which the 2 of us shared. The toppings were simple and fresh and I could taste each one with every bite. The crust was light and crispy. I can honestly say this was by far the best pizza I have ever had. I was extremely impressed. We both left full with nothing left over (because it was so delicious). I have found my new pizza spot for when we visit Baltimore and want pizza. In fact, before we left the city to go back home to Pennsylvania, we called and ordered "The Popular" to take home to our kids. Bottom line....eating in was very comfortable, staff was extremely friendly and attentive and the food was superb. A visit here is highly recommended and a must try!!
Jeff K. a year agoI've been to Matthew's a handful of times. Each visit has been very consistent. I've ordered the margherita, 3 cheese, and popeye. All three have been really good, with the 3 cheese being my favorite. The crust is absolutely old of the stars. I'd call it a semi- deep dish crust that has a nice crisp. There's a lot of cheese and the ratio to other toppings is good. I would say the most underwhelming item I've ordered is the iced tea, but that's not a big deal. The service has been good and the prices I think are fair. Matthew's is certainly one of the better pizzerias in Baltimore City. It's different than your average pizza parlor so if you go in expecting that you're expectations may not be met. Matthew's is a solid spot!
